Eddie Merlot’s is a small chain of high end steakhouses located in the Midwest. My local Eddie Merlot’s (in Lincolnshire, Illinois) has a gorgeous bar area and a very nice dining room. I took my mom and her husband, Howard, last Monday night and they both loved the fact that the room was quite enough to have a nice conversation. I started with my usual Knob Creek on the rocks ($10)–a very fair pour. My mom declined my offer of a Monday night cocktail and we got down to business.
A Great Dinner at Eddie Merlot’s
Mom and Howard split the Chopped Salad ($10) which the staff graciously brought out already pre-split–a nice touch. They also split the Roasted Bell & Evans Chicken ($28.50) which is served with a truffled miso honey glaze and a side of baby carrots. I opted for the Prime Ribeye Steak ($47) which was cooked perfectly and nicely presented by our excellent waiter, Mike. Fantastic! We also ordered a side of the Eddie’s Potatoes ($8.50) which is a nice version of au gratin potatoes (although the double stuffed potato at the next table looked better). The Sautéed Mushrooms ($10), prepared with
shallots, garlic and sweet vermouth, are the best I’ve ever had at any steakhouse–period! Last, but definitely not least, we ordered the World’s Best Carrot Cake ($9.50). Outstanding!!! The World’s Best Carrot Cake definitely lives up to its name. Order it–you won’t be disappointed.
Eddie Merlot’s Platinum Club
After dinner Mike convinced me to pay $25 to join the Eddie Merlot’s frequent diner program, the Platinum Club. Here’s the deal–for your $25 you get a $20 credit loaded on you card after you register online. You also get an additional $25 off when you visit Eddie Merlot’s within 30 days before or after your birthday (mine is November 24th). Accordingly, if I hit Eddie Merlot’s before December 24th I will have a $45 credit on my Platinum Card–a great value.
You also get a $25 credit on your Platinum Card on your your wedding anniversary (if not married, just pick another anniversary date). Platinum Club membership also entitles you to a $25 gift certificate for every $350 you spend at Eddie Merlot’s. There are increased awards available for customers who spend more than $3,000 (Diamond) or $5,000 (Black) annually, and Platinum Club members periodically receive special “members only” offers from Eddie Merlot’s.
Eddie Merlot’s $100 Gift Cards at Costco for $79.95
You can buy as many Eddie Merlot’s gift cards you want for 80 cents on the dollar at Costco. However,I paid for my meal with some Eddie Merlot’s gift cards I purchased through Skyauction.com (still available periodically) for less than 70 cents on the dollar. Check out my article Steakhouse Deal–Eddie Merlot $100 Gift Cards for Less for more details on how you might be able to buy gift cards for less than the Costco price.
